September is Senior Pet Health Month!
As the science of medicine improves, people are living longer...and so are pets! As pets get older, it's important they have physical exams more often. This allows for faster treatment if something abnormal is found. Starting treatment sooner can add years to your pet's life. That's why at Shaver Road we recommend seeing your senior pet every 6 months.
What are some of the problems that occur more often in senior pets?
* Vision or hearing loss
* Dental disease
* Arthritis or joint pain
* Weight loss or gain
* Organ failure (ex: kidney, liver, heart)
* Cancer
* Behavioral changes
What are some of the signs that my senior pet may be sick?
* Change in appetite or thirst level
* Changes in their mobility
* Vocalizing more often
* Changes in their bathroom habits
* Vomiting
* Coughing
These problems are not simply aging changes that our pets have to live with. They can be symptoms of a curable disease or signs of pain that we can relieve!
We want your pet to enjoy his or her golden years. Please call for your pet's senior health appointment today!
